官方宣佈由 Ron Howard 接手執導Han Solo 電影（未命名）導演一職後，Ron 在社交媒體宣佈正式投入工作並分享了拍攝場地相片，雖然相片沒透露任何細節，但已意味著由新導演負責的拍攝工作已經開始及項目已經重新展開。

因創作上有分歧，官方早前宣佈撒換 Han Solo 電影原有的兩位導演（Christopher Miller 和 Phil Lord）並由奧斯卡得主 Ron Howard 接手導演職務。
第二部星戰外傳電影由Ron Howard 執導（Christopher Miller和Phil Lord為第一任導演），劇本由父子檔Lawrence Kasdan和Jon Kasdan共同編寫，年輕的Han Solo由Alden Ehrenreich演出，其他演員包括Emilia Clarke、Woody Harrelson、Donald Glover（年輕Lando Calrissian）、Thandie Newton、Phoebe Waller-Bridge、Joonas Suotamo（年輕Chewbacca）。
故事時間設定在EP III和EP IV之間，講述年輕Han Solo如何變成一個走私客、流氓，及成長成一名英雄，同時將讓大家知道Han Solo如何與Lando及Chewbacca相遇，電影預定在2018年5月25日上映。
